An N-annulated perylene butyl tetraester for alcohol processed semiconducting organic thin films

Abstract Herein, we report on the design and synthesis of an N-annulated perylene butyl tetraester (PTEN-H) for use in alcohol processed semiconducting films. PTEN-H was contrasted with known diimide (PDIN-H) where former has ring-opened imide positions which turn lowers electron affinity (i.e. rendering hole transporting) improves polar green solvent solubility. can be solubilized 1-butanol up to 10 mg ml −1 gentle heating spin-cast or slot-die coated form uniform thin films glass and/or plastic substrates. Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) were fabricated using active material layer deposited from solution as solvent. While mobilities achieved (0.39 × −4 cm 2 Vs ), blending molecular a previously reported processable polymer, IIG20-OH, done boost performance. This led increased not only native material, but IIG20-OH polymer well. Furthermore, blend onto polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate giving suitable large area device fabrication.

A high performance three-dimensional (3D) thiophene-annulated perylene dye, namely tetra-PBI-S, was designed and synthesized. The appropriate LUMO level, balanced carrier mobilities and favourable phase separation make tetra-PBI-S based solar cells show a much higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.2% than tetra-PBI based solar cells with a PCE of 3.6%.
